LaMonte French (1981) “Jonah’s TYCOON” 87.5in x 55in Mixed Media on Cardboard
A journey of internal dialysis, moments of dissecting arrogance, exposure of vices and humility distanced by idle Gods. We swim in the ocean of personal despair and giant conglomerates fill the rooms of spaces considered as norms. The representation the whale holds in this piece is one of stature yet to be determined. It is a portraiture of self-entitlement to whom the world as a whole chooses to go up against, the so called "system"
Cardboard collaged by aged Bible pages and the 24kt gold-leaf glazed teeth create an opulence that gives way to stories of icons lost. The creases and wrinkles in the body give pathway to the disruption of those lost too soon.
It is a work with grand stature, wth a common narrative; giants fall yet remain immortal in their demise.
