Bush Intercontinental Airport
Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport and William P. Hobby Airport are swiftly transforming into "artports", thanks to a combination of innovative programs and an impressive permanent collection. These initiatives aim to enhance the travel experiences of millions with a touch of artistic flair unique to Houston.
Erika Alonso, who held the distinguished position of artist in residence at Bush Airport from March to June of 2023, is among the artists contributing to this vibrant change.
Alton DuLaney, curator of public art for Houston Airports, shares with CultureMap, “Art in the airport is not only a growing global trend, but there's a strong argument that airports are the emerging contemporary museums. With travelers having time on their hands and being receptive, we're eager to elevate their stay in our terminals. Our Public Art program, with its undeniable 'wow factor', is a testament to this, as we've received reports of passengers arriving earlier just to savor the art on display.”
